Hamlet's 'To Try or not to Try'

Spring 2020

Zoya Petrovska graduated with a bachelors in Psychology in the spring of 2020.

Petrovska writes: 'To briefly describe my project I would say that my video was my 2020 take on Hamlet's infamous 'to be or not to be' speech. The video was a way for me to not only compare my personal struggles to his, but to process my emotions in a novel situation. Hamlet's inner conflict present in Shakespeare's writing is something I tried to encapsulate with my own feelings of stress, guilt, and confusion over whether my own struggles caused by COVID were selfish or valid. It is easy to overlook all the little milestones and experiences that so many people have had to miss because of COVID when there have been vastly larger and more tragic repercussions of the pandemic. However, it does not make missing graduations, proms, weddings, etc. any less difficult. Almost a year later, I feel that it is important to acknowledge the ways we have all been personally affected, but to find ways to make the best of every situation and get creative."

Day by Day: COVID-19

December 7, 2020

Cassidy Eiss' short film recounts daily life in the early days of the pandemic. She writes that her film takes place "... In the form of a dream but upon waking up, there is still a face mask on the bedside table, signifying that this dream like state is actually a reality. This film highlights the little every day changes caused because of the pandemic, such as facemasks, social distanced markers, Plexiglas barriers, temperature screenings, sanitizing surfaces and staying home. The purpose is to show that COVID-19 has changed life as we know it today and there is no knowing what the future holds. It is also to portray that the media causes increased mass panic with intense news reports constantly flooding our heads with more updates and information."
